Pakistani Mobile TV Service Faces Govt Regulations; Philippines Near Launch

n Pakistan, the first mobile TV service, started by Telenor, the Norwegian telecom company, faces government objections. Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA), which regulates radio and TV in Pakistan, has served a notice that it can’t offer a mobile TV service in the country without a license, reports News.com. The authority gave Telenor a license to operate a mobile phone service four years earlier, but it’s not clear whether that license covered TV…Telenor says it does.
Dawn: Pemra said mobile TV was a new technology in Pakistan and it did not come in the ambit of Pemra laws. It said would be granted a license soon after framing new rules in the next week.
Meanwhile, in Philippines, the mobile TV service from Smart Communications and MediaQuest Holdings is expected to take off later this year..the companies are eyeing to have 14 to 15 channels available at the time of the launch
